Where to stay on Nusa Penida
Where you stay on Nusa Penida decides how much of your trip is spent on the road. The island is bigger than it looks, the roads are slow, and the east and west coasts each take a full day.
Choose the area first
Most stays on Nusa Penida are around Ped and Toyapakeh, or in the quieter stretch near Buyuk and Sampalan harbours.

Ped and Toyapakeh. The busiest part of the island, closest to Banjar Nyuh harbour, which has the most crossings through the day. Most restaurants and cafes are here.

Batununggul, near Buyuk and Sampalan. Quieter, with Buyuk and Sampalan harbours about 10 minutes away. Sampalan has fewer crossings, mostly early morning. Banjar Nyuh is about 30 minutes by scooter.
Villa or hotel
For couples, families and groups, a private villa gives you the whole property: bedrooms, pool, kitchen and outdoor space, without sharing with other guests.
A handful of small hotels and resorts cluster around Toyapakeh and Crystal Bay. They work well for a short stay or a solo traveller. Rooms are compact and shared pools fill up in high season.
Match the harbour to your stay
Book the crossing to the harbour nearest your villa. It saves a transfer across the island at the end of a travel day.
Banjar Nyuh runs all day, while Sampalan is mostly early morning. If you are staying with us, tell us your villa and travel day and we will tell you which crossing to book.
Plan around the two coasts
The east coast (Diamond Beach, Atuh, Thousand Island) and the west coast (Kelingking, Broken Beach, Angel's Billabong, Crystal Bay) each take a full day.
Across our villas, guests stay two to three nights on average, which is enough for one day on each coast. Most guests plan to see four beaches in a day; most manage two, and enjoy those more.

Villa Tropikarma. A new two bedroom villa with a private pool in Ped, ten minutes from Banjar Nyuh harbour, with restaurants and a supermarket close by. Up to 4 guests.
